Douglas lays down a marker at Homestead-Miami

Jacob Douglas wrapped up USF Pro 2000 Spring Training on the Homestead-Miami Speedway Road Course on a high, underlining his front-running credentials with four top-three finishes from the five sessions he contested.
Douglas wasted no time making his presence felt in last week’s test on the 2.21-mile (3.56 km), 14-turn circuit.

In the opening session, he completed 21 laps and delivered a 1:21.4209 on his 19th tour, which was the third quickest time of the session and less than four-tenths shy of the outright benchmark.

He backed it up immediately in Session 2, once again finishing third fastest. His 1:21.5710, recorded across 11 laps, left him just three-and-a-half tenths adrift and firmly in the mix at the sharp end of the timesheets.
With teams allocated just three sets of tyres across seven sessions, Douglas and the Pabst Racing crew played a strategic game.

Electing to sit out Session 3 on the high-degradation circuit, they returned in Session 4 on used rubber, banking 16 laps and valuable data despite posting the 11th-fastest time, a 1:21.8127.

Saving two fresh sets for the final two sessions proved decisive.

Douglas surged back toward the top in Wednesday’s first run – Session 5, unleashing a 1:21.0134 flyer on lap 12 of 16 — third fastest and less than a tenth from P1. He then capped a hugely encouraging week in Session 6, clocking his quickest lap of the test, a 1:20.9797, again good enough for third and just eight-hundredths off the lead.

“We showed really strong pace all week,” said Douglas. “To be inside the top three in four of our five sessions and consistently within a tenth of the lead gives us a lot of confidence heading into the season.

“We were strategic with how we used our tyres, especially sitting out one session to maximise those final runs. The team did a fantastic job, and I think the results reflect that approach.

“It’s a strong foundation, but we know there’s still more pace to unlock. A massive thank you to Pabst Racing and all of my supporters — the car rolled off the truck fast, and every change we made took us in the right direction.

“Now we’re less than a month away from the first points-paying round. The Streets of Arlington is going to be an exciting challenge, and we’re ready to get after it.”

Douglas will next be in action in the first two rounds at The Grand Prix of Arlington, the first time the series will hit the 2.73-mile (4.39 km), 14-turn street course in Texas.
